These baskets are made from palm leaves.
This type of basket is an open basket without a lid.Three sizes are available: S, M, and L.It is woven using palm leaves. Palm leaves are either natural (cream-colored) or black, and the black leaves are dyed with a chemical dye.This is a distinctive weaving technique in which small triangular patterns are arranged in rows.The rim is wrapped with alternating natural and black palm leaves.This is the underside of the bottom of the basket. The basket itself is soft and has no reinforcement to support the bottom, making it unsuitable for carrying heavy objects (which may cause damage).When holding the basket with items inside, handle it by supporting the bottom with both hands.Let us introduce you to each size.This is size S.As a handkerchief or mini-towel holder.This is size M.Size M for children’s toolboxes. These baskets are woven from palm leaves, traditionally made in the region of Chettinad in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The local people have revived the once nearly extinct techniques through the activities of a non-profit organization, and the income from the products now provides an additional source of income for the women engaged in farming.
The Kottan series is an original design by Suno & Morrison, a Japanese designer.
The baskets are created in collaboration with the makers, including the size of the baskets, weaving method, and color scheme.
